Rt Police Station Burglar Deported

Courtney K. Meade who pleaded guilty to burglarising the Road Town Police Station, and was sentenced to 20 years behind bars was ordered deported from the Territory by His Excellency Augustus Jaspert

Meade was charged with aggravated burglary and carrying an unlicensed firearm. He pleaded guilty on 8 May 2012. During the trial the Crown stated that Meade and co-accused entered the Road Town Police Station wearing masks, gloves, and armed with a glock, a crow bar and a knife.

It was stated that Meade and others had several plastic handcuffs among other things and had a hand drawn map which was used to guide their way to the guard room where they dislocated a CCTV camera and assaulted PC Kevin Prince. The officer was allegedly struck in his head by one of the attackers and hit in his abdomen by another.

Meade and his co-accused were caught disarmed, unmasked and taken into custody. He was sentenced by Justice Albert Redhead on 23 July 2012 to 20-years imprisonment. However, that 20-year sentence was varied by the appeal court in October 2012. As a result, Meade received a sentence of 15 years imprisonment that took effect   from   the   date   of   his remand which was 24 November 2010.

In making the deportation order on 25 March the Governor said that it has come to his knowledge that Courtney K. Meade is a person not deemed to belong to the Territory and that the said Courtney K. Meade has been convicted of the offence of aggravated burglary which is punishable with imprisonment of three months or more.

Further Governor Jaspert said that Meade is a person whose presence in the Territory would, in his opinion and based on advice from the Chief Immigration Officer be undesirable and not conducive to the public good; therefore, the Governor ordered that Meade leave the Territory on or before the expiration of seven days from the date on which a copy of the order is served on him by an immigration officer or a police officer, and thereafter to remain out of the Territory.
