Defending US Open Champ Kicked Out Of Semis

September 14, 2009

CaribWorldNews, QUEENS, NY, Sat. Sept 12, 2009: In a shocking turn of events tonight, the defending U.S. Open tennis champion, Serena Williams, was kicked out of the semi finals due to `unsportsmanlike` conduct.

Williams, who faced a tough match with Kim Clijsters throughout, seemed to lose it completely after a lineswoman called a foot fault that the California-born tennis star disagreed with.  Instead of continuing with the serve at 5-6, she was seen clearly yelling and apparently cursing at the lineswoman twice.

From CBS microphones and the finger pointing, it seemed Williams at one point seemed to threaten the lineswoman , saying apparently she would take the ball and shove up her `f—- a…`

The lineswoman reported it to the chair umpire. The chair umpire called in the match referees who after a discussion with Williams, awarded point to Clijsters and ended the match on a default.

Williams already had been given a code violation warning earlier in the match when she broke her racket after losing the first set. The tournament referee later told CBS Sports that Williams was defaulted for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Facing the press after, Williams said `it was what it was` and she has moved on and not focused on why she lost her temper. She also refused to discuss what she said to the lineswoman and said she prefers to stay positive.

Williams also said she is a very `intense` player, while referencing idols like John McEnroe and Monica Seles.

`I`m moving on,` she said, while adding that  Clijsters played an incredible match and came out with a plan.

Clijsters advanced to the finals. Williams was on Sunday fined $10,000 on Sunday for her menacing tirade and $500 for the racquet abuse. She has yet to apologize for her actions.
